Melania Trump admits she felt ‘abandoned’ after 2016 plagiarism accusations

Melania Trump’s book, titled ‘Melania’ is slated to be out on October 8 in the US and has already caused ripples in the lead up to the US presidential elections scheduled on November 5. Her stance on abortion rights and other personal experiences and opinions mentioned in the book have made headlines in the run up the November 5 polls.
Now, excerpts from her book have revealed how she felt like after being accused of plagiarism in 2016 after her speech was compared to that of Michelle Obama, The Mirror US reported.
The speech in question is Melania’s introduction to voters in the 2016 presidential elections. In the run-up she had been spotted beside her husband, Donald Trump, but she hadn’t spoken to the public. Then she did. She gave a speech to the American voters and then came the plagiarism accusations.
For instance, Mrs. Trump said: “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond, and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect.”
People compared that with what Michelle Obama had said eight years ago: “And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: like, you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond, that you do what you say you’re going to do, that you treat people with dignity and respect.”
Both the woman’s speeches included similar lessons about persistence and hard work.
Now, Melania has addressed the accusations in her upcoming memoir, writing: “My sense of accomplishment on our flight back home swiftly turned to dismay and shock as news of a potential accusation of plagiarism reached our campaign. My initial reaction was one of disbelief, but upon closer examination, the undeniable similarities between the two speeches left me reeling.”
Meredith McIver, an employee at the Trump Organization at the time, is also named as the person behind the error. Melania notes, she had shared Michelle Obama’s speech with Ms McIver simply because it “resonated deeply” with her.
Melania also writes that McIver offered a public apology, admitting that Obama’s quotes were mistakenly included in the draft. She also accused the Trump campaign and the Republican Party of leaving her on her own.
“Discovering the team’s failure to perform their duty filled me with a profound sense of betrayal. These were professionals, charged with ensuring the success of our campaign, yet they failed to implement even the most fundamental safeguard. This negligence left me feeling completely abandoned. I felt a deep sense of outrage and disappointment,” Melania writes.
The incident harboured a lesson for Melania as she vows never to delegate certain tasks, admitting the incident served as a “crucial lesson in the realities of the political world.”
